Opera Chic's JDF Interview

Opera Chic's recent interview with Juan Diego Florez is such a delightful read that I simply must link to it from here. So not only is the man incredibly talented and quite handsome in person, he's actually got a brain. As if we didn't all love him enough already...

It Really is Kind of Webby

And I'm referring to the Internet, you know, the World Wide Web.

So like, I google someone simply because I like his goofy personality that comes through in various types of comments on that Social Networking Site. Next thing I know I'm sending him notes and requesting postcards. I post all about it, and soon others are running to request postcards. And then, true immortality: Opera Chic hears about it.

So, Dear Readers, If any of you have requested and received a postcard from Mr. Van Horn, feel free to send me a photo of the postcard and I'll post it here.

All I know is, he better not ask me to contribute to his postage fund. I have to save those pennies for opera tickets.

The Power of Context

My esteemed blogger colleague Opera Chic recently wrote about cutie-pie tenor Michael Fabiano's (who I still regret not giving a big squeezy hug goodbye.) recent experience at La Scala. Don't forget to read the comments. And note that the commenter's name appears at the bottom of the comment, not at the top. OC's intent appears to be, "Look! Here's another stupid thing La Scala did!" yet one of the commenters appears to have twisted it into, "He's a poor little boy who needs to learn the ways of the world." Context people, context! Someone else commented about how talented and professional he is. No idea who that could have been. Oops my name is there, haha.

Johnny O in Gold Lamé

Was recently chatting via IM with John O, remember him? He told me he was performing with Cecilia Bartoli, who truly has one of the most amazing voices I've heard. I figured it was a European thing and I'd never hear anything official about it... but how could I forget Opera Chic! She was on it with one of her great posts and, of course, fabulous pictures! Thanks, Opera Chic!

18 High Ones

Check out Opera Chic's review of La Fille at the Met last night. OC was kind enough to post during intermission to tell us that the Florezberry did an encore of "Ah Mes Amis." That's allota High Cs!

Hope he hasn't worn out that precious voice... of course I'm sure there's no way he'd cancel Saturday what with the HD thing... no matter how many fish bones or other irritating substances he may inadvertently swallow.

All Ya Gotta Do Is Caaaallllll

Thanks for the idea, Opera Chic!

I just called Carnegie Hall and said, "I'm coming to a performance at Zankel Hall next week. Can you tell me your backstage policy, like if I wanted to go backstage to meet one of the performers?"

"Oh, sure. Just talk to one of the ushers before the performance and they'll take care of it for you."

Easy peasy.

My favorite line from someone else's blog

I love reading Opera Chic's blog. Here's my favorite line from one of her recent entries:

Anyway, Flórez (every time you say his name it just makes him more powerful)

Yes, Opera Chic, I understand.

Article about John Osborn

I know there might be one or two Juan Diego fans out there who glance at my ramblings from time to time. I also know that there are mixed feelings about the whole Chicago thing, from the comments I've read at Opera Chic , Parterre and other places. So to supplement my previous review of JDF's replacement (well, can ANYONE really replace him??) I will paste and link here an article from the U.S. One, that free paper I mentioned before that had this article about about John Osborn, the man who has the difficult task of reminding everyone of their disappointment. But like I said before, I don't think he or any of the ticket-holders have anything to worry about. Believe it or not, I'm actually looking forward to seeing him again.
